It was my birthday week last week. Many so-called "friends" celebrated by posting hideous photos from my youth on facebook. Of course I didn't feel quite enough people got to experience the fabulousness that was the early 80s so I'm bringing it to you here.
Here is my 4th grade class. I love that I am still friends with many of the people in this photo. I was apparently unsure about what to do with my arms. Standoffish chest fold seems to be the answer.
Here is a photo from the basement of the house I grew up in. My friend Heidi claims this photo was taken probably on my birthday. It clearly must have been because most special occasions require your brightest red cords rolled up to show off your striped socks, poofy matchy matchy shirt, and Colonel Sanders tie. The topper is clearly my mullet. However, I'm not letting my friends off so easily.
Kim (far left) is the wisest of us all, clearly averting her eyes from the day-glo of my outfit.
Heide is also sporting some rolled up jeans, a micky mouse sweatshirt, and a bandana tied into a necklace. Her hair is less unfortunate.
Tina is also averting her eyes from my fabulosity, but mostly I think she's admiring her leg warmers she found to match her shirt.
Finally - check out my death grip on my Kodak Disc camera - I apparently never went anywhere without that camera as you can see from another photo below:
Again, proudly sporting the mullet, and Heidi's bandana/necklace has made its way onto me. I remember this outfit. I LOVED this outfit. This was 7th or 8th grade. I fully recall buying this outfit, and I bought white pants with pastel pinstripes that matched the pastel argyle of my shirt. I remember this outfit so well because it was my "going out without my scoliosis brace outfit." That's right. If I wasn't already a smokin-hot mullet wearing bandana necklace 7th grader, I had a scoliosis brace. This was one of the outfits I bought to wear when I didn't have to wear my brace. Seriously, it's a wonder I ever married and reproduced.
But I did - and Here I am some 30 years later at Lake Tahoe with my oldest, my only girl.
We had a beautiful sunny day for skiing.
She got to play with her cousin Ana Carolina from Brazil.
And I got to play with her mom, my cousin Patricia. Here we are getting ready to race.
I won.
Amelia spent the whole day skiing and did great! It was truly a wonderful birthday.
I was so focused on getting ready for our getaway with Amelia to Lake Tahoe that I completely overlooked the boys' 20th month birthday. I'm blaming my old age.

The boys are continuing to change and develop every day. They are getting their 2 year molars, so we're having a few rough days & nights. But mostly they are doing great - they love to play with cars and blocks and Harris can sit for an hour "reading" books to himself. Happy 20 months boys!
