I'm not on an "official" buying ban, but since I'm getting ready for a Christmas trip to Rio I'm saving my pennies for fun things to buy to take there and to buy there.
But this caught my eye today. I just love luggage. I have way more than I need, and I typically buy the cheapest, most colorful, easily identifiable, lightweight luggage I can find. But this... is so pretty.
So, we had a really fabulous response to my plight of inability to find sparkling shoes. I had people far and wide stalking Nordstrom shoe sales persons for me. And I thank you. In the end, these shoes were apparently too fabulous and in demand, and could not be located. I even got an excitable call from Jen (hi Jen!) who was at Nordstrom trying them on in other colors and offering to purchase the gold for me if the silver could not be located.
Oh well... I googled periodically over the last few days, and in the end, I found these substitution. Same brand, same sparkle, but on a black background vs. the silver or gold background.
This camera phone photo doesn't do them justice. They're actually much cuter in person. Aaaaand, sparkly silver lining, I think they would be cute with jeans too.
But the shoe search doesn't stop there. On Friday, my friend Julie, (hi Julie!) received in the mail, her much awaited Via Spiga boots in suede "graphite."
Imagine her sadness upon opening the box and discovering boring old black leather. She quickly contacted the store, only to discover that that boot was sold out in that color too! I gathered my shoe searching resources and together we spent some time trying to track down these boots too... NO LUCK.
People, I thought we were in a recession here! And Julie and I are fighting to buy shoes and no one will sell them to us. What is going on? Are they making less? Are these "loss leader" shoes? I need some answers. Unfortunately, Julie has not found an acceptable option.
Again, eternal gratefulness to the person who can locate these grey boots for Julie in an 8.5.
I love party shoes. I love glittery, sparkly party shoes. I have coveted for so long the glittered peep toe pumps of Christian Louboutin. But, I could not justify the hundereds of dollars for "party shoes." But, look... so pretty:
So, when I got my Nordstrom catalog in the mail on Saturday and saw these for about 20% of the cost:
I was so happy. But I was busy on Saturday, and didn't get around to pulling the trigger on these.
Sunday I sat down to do some work and to reward myself for (1) getting my work done and (2) going to the gym both days this weekend, I went online to Nordstrom to purchase these for the upcoming Christmas party season...
SOLD OUT IN EVERY SIZE.
I don't understand how that happens. Needless to say, once I was told I couldn't have these... I HAD TO HAVE THEM!
I spent the next 20-30 minutes googling these all over the internet, but no luck.
My undying love to anyone who can locate them in a 7.5, 8 or 8.5. I'm willing to make any size work.
Amelia had a packet of "school work" in her folder today and I love seeing how much better she is getting at writing her letters and drawing. I need to be better about finding a good way to save these school items, expecially the gems like this:
Cover page: My Five Senses by: Amelia. And can we talk about how good she is getting at writing her name in upper and lower case? Clearly a genius.
Page 2: Sight: What can I see with my eyes? Ladybug. Ok, so the ladybug has a few extra legs, whatever. Still... genius.
Page 3: Smell - What can I smell with my nose? Flowers. And ahhh... how cute how she tried to spell it herself. We're working on her "s" right now to get it right... but. Still.
Then ... page 4. Taste - What can I taste with my tongue? Lollipop. Erm... um... ahem... well, uh.
Let's just move along now shall we? Uh... Page 5 - Hearing: What can I hear with my ears? Ocean. Ok, so the ocean is a little rough... but whew... good to move on.
Page 6 - Touch - What can I touch with my hands. Here Amelia was clearly tired of following the rules and just wanted to draw whatever the heck she wanted... and so, what she can touch with her hands? Silly Face.
Adorable right? I think we've all forgotten about taste now, havent' we?
I love Halloween. It is probably one of my favorite holidays. When I was growing up, it would invariably be raining on Halloween, so we would hand out candy at Ed Bowers' house. He was a family friend and he and my dad (6'0 and 6'4" respectively) would dress up in life-sized gorilla costumes and scare the bejeezus out of all of the local kids. They would then get a full-sized candy bar and a Polaroid picture of themselves with Ed and my dad. One year my dad got an old cow bone and was swinging it around as he jumped out at the kids, and let's just say that a lot of kids left with damp pants... and not from the Pacific Northwest weather.
It was the best. I would get a ton of candy (something we did not have much of in our house growing up), we'd eat Kentucky Fried Chicken and play in Ed's "game room." He had the best game room, and by the time we were in grade school/junior high, Ed's kids were grown and gone. He had a bowling alley, video games, fooseball. Heaven. My job would be to count the number of kids. Ed took a great amount of pride in the growing numbers. Some years we would have 600 or 700 trick or treaters. No small feat in a town of only 6,000.
Even thought those were great memories, I would rather take Amelia out trick or treating during these early years, rather than sit back and wait. And, I dont want to wear a gorilla costume. I think the girls were ok with this plan:
Here's some photos from this year's festivities. You will notice as the night goes on, Amelia's is wearing less and less of her ladybug accessories. She started out and continued the entire evening, however, wearing ONE. PURPLE. SOCK. She claimed the other sock did not fit and she really felt that this sock was essential to her comfort. She also refused the black stockings, choosing to wear hot pink leggings. You will also note that in almost every photo she has some crazy "pose-face" on. I have no idea where she gets the attitude.
I call this one "Oh my gosh we are in some much trouble ahead..."
Handing out candy... Puple sock hiding just out of frame:
Posing in front of one of the less scary houses... note Purple Sock.
Posing with the scarecrow family:
And heading to one of the final houses:
After all the trick or treating, only two houses resulting in tears, we came back for pjs and a showing of the Great Pumpkin. A perfect night.
